I’m Flourette “Flo” Ketner, candidate for the 19th District of the Virginia Senate, which includes all of Salem City, all of Floyd, and parts of Bedford, Carroll, Franklin, Montgomery, Roanoke, and Wythe Counties. I am a wife and stay-at-home mother of three young children and have lived in the New River Valley for over 30 years. I graduated from Floyd County High School and Radford University, where I majored in English.

In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, playing with my children, being a social butterfly out in our community, and board games. I truly enjoy putting these together and playing board games with my children and friends outside and in public spaces. I’m a music enthusiast and play the flute. Every week, I love heading up Lego Club at my children’s school and watching these young minds build glorious and elaborate creations setting the stage for their continuing steps into our world.

I was raised by a disabled grandmother on a fixed income while my mother painfully lost her battle with drug abuse. Growing up, my grandmother found herself in the position where she had to gain employment in order to care for us both. She became a librarian in Floyd where I volunteered to make her job easier. Starting my first job at age 15, I always helped pay our household bills until age 19 and now I'm blessed to help care of her and her independence.
