SENATE DEMS APPLAUD AMAZON RAISING MINIMUM WAGE

RICHMOND -- On Tuesday, Amazon announced that they are raising their minimum wage for all hourly employees to $15. This increase is expected to impact over 4,000 Virginians. Senate Democratic Leader Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax) and Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke (D-Hampton) issued the following statements in support of this significant choice.

Said Senator Saslaw, "Amazon is doing the right thing for its employees.  Every day workers earn the right to be able to support their families and live near their place of employment.  This should be the model for businesses throughout the Commonwealth."

Said Senator Locke, “I am ecstatic that Amazon made the decision to ensure that all hourly workers are earning a fair wage. I hope that more corporations decide to follow Amazon's lead to set their employees up for success on and off the job by embracing fair wage policies.”
