Richmond, Va. – This morning, the Virginia Growth and Opportunity Act passed the Senate on the strength of near-unanimous Democratic support. The measure — co-chief patroned by Senator Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) and strongly supported by Gov. Terry McAuliffe — puts in place necessary infrastructure for GO Virginia, a bipartisan job creation and economic development initiative that will award grants to foster greater regional cooperation.

Said Senator Howell, “After all the harm sequestration has done, we need to find a new way to do business. GO Virginia will foster regional collaboration between industry, government and higher education — meaning new jobs and stronger growth. I’m proud to have championed this initiative in the Senate.”

Said Senate Democratic Leader Senator Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax), “The Governor has been doing a great job attracting new businesses to Virginia, and that work goes better when we as legislators push towards the same goal. GO Virginia gives us the tools to keep strengthening and diversifying our economy. By working at the regional level, by bringing together private sector and public sector voices to evaluate needs and then meet them, we’re going to be able to keep bringing in well-paying jobs.”
