Information about the June 14 Democratic Primary for Senate District 1

Newport News, Va. -- Today, the Democratic District Nominating Committee for Senate District 1 announced that, in accordance with the rules set forth by the State Board of Elections, they had put in a formal request to the SBE to hold a Democratic primary for the district ahead of the November 8 special election. The primary will coincide with the already scheduled June 14 primary.
 
As required by the State Board of Elections, Democratic candidates have until 5pm on Wednesday, April 20th to submit the following documents:
  • Filing fee of $360.00 -- Treasurer or Director of Finance in the candidate's county or city of residence;
  • Certificate of Candidate Qualification -- State Board of Elections;
  • Declaration of Candidacy, 250 valid signatures of registered voters in the district, and a receipt showing payment of the filing fee -- District Nominating Chair;
  • Statement of Economic Interest -- Clerk of the Senate.
