Sen. McEachin Congratulates Winners in Competitive Primaries
Strong candidates emerge in 10th, 16th, and 29th senatorial districts
RICHMOND — Tonight, Senate Democratic caucus chair Sen. Donald McEachin (D - Henrico) thanked all those who sought a Democratic nomination for state senate and congratulated the winners of competitive primaries in the 10th, 16th, and 29th senatorial districts.
Said Sen. McEachin, “For months, we have had exceptional candidates running competitive races in every corner of our Commonwealth. Tonight, that field grows stronger still. Dan Gecker and Jeremy McPike are superb candidates, and they’ll be strong additions to our caucus. Our own Sen. Rosalyn Dance does great work in the Senate, and I’m delighted that so many voters want her to continue. I hope all Democrats — and Independents, and Republicans — will join me in supporting our nominees. Moving Virginia forward means taking back the Senate, and that can only happen if we all come together.”
Continued Sen. McEachin, “To everyone else who sought a Democratic nomination today: I commend you for your desire to serve. Like all those who voted for you, and like Democrats across the state, I am profoundly grateful for your passion, your hard work, and the way you’ve given so freely of your time and energy. Thank you.”
10th Senatorial District
Democrats have carried the tenth senatorial district in each of the last six statewide races. Nominee Dan Gecker is a Chesterfield County supervisor and local businessman. As of the last filing deadline, Gecker had raised more than twice as much money as his Republican opponent.
16th Senatorial District
Democrats have carried the sixteenth district in statewide and state senatorial elections for many years. A longtime nurse and former administrator at the Southside Virginia Training Center, Sen. Rosalyn Dance has served in the General Assembly since 2005 and was first elected to the Senate in 2014. As of the last filing deadline, Sen. Dance had raised more than three times as much money as her Independent opponent in the general election.
29th Senatorial District
Democrats have carried the twenty-ninth district in each of the last six statewide races by double-digit margins and have held the senatorial district for many years. Nominee Jeremy McPike is a longtime volunteer firefighter and Director of General Services for the City of Alexandria.
