SENATE COMMITTEE REPORTS BILL TO LIMIT REPLACEMENT EBT CARDS

RICHMOND - This morning, the Senate Rehabilitation and Social Services committee reported HB 2207 by Delegate Roxann Robinson (R-Midlothian) on a party-line vote to limit the amount of replacement EBT cards that can be issued before a determination of foul play is made. The bill would mandate the Department of Social Services to withhold a replacement card until the household contacts the office to explain the loss of previous cards.

Said Senator Jennifer Wexton (D-Loudoun)"The cards we're talking about are like debit cards. When reported lost or stolen, they are deactivated. Assuming bad intent on the part of those receiving public assistance is appalling."

Said Senator Jeremy McPike (D-Prince William)"This is more of a solution in search of a problem. We're going to lose money on this. It's going to cost more than it saves us."
