Senate Democrats Pass Transportation Bill

RICHMOND – Today the Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation to fund Virginia's transportation projects.

After more than an hour of debate, Senate approved the transportation bill, SB1446, which creates the Virginia Transportation Infrastructure Fund (Fund) and the Virginia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (Bank) on the Senate floor. Senate Democrats were originally concerned the bill's funding model would take revenue from the state's general fund, but the bill's Chief Co-patron Sen. Charles Colgan, D-Manassas, removed any general fund revenue from the bill before it was presented.

"Today, the Senate worked in a bipartisan manner to address our state's infrastructure needs in a way that is economic and protects the general fund from political shell games. This plan is economic because bids and interest rates are low and provides jobs to thousands of Virginians," said Senate Democratic Caucus Communications Director Keiana Page.
