SENATE DEMOCRATS' STATEMENT ON 2017 DEMOCRATIC TICKET

ARLINGTON -- This evening, Senate Democratic Leader Senator Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax) and Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Senator Mamie E. Locke (D-Hampton) released the following joint statement regarding the 2017 Democratic ticket:

Senate Democrats are proud to stand with our newly minted Democratic ticket. The energy that Ralph Northam and Justin Fairfax -- supplementing Attorney General Mark Herring's stellar record of accomplishment -- put Democrats in an extraordinarily strong position to once again sweep in November. We will do everything possible to support our ticket as we know that they will fight to expand prosperity, continue growing our New Virginia Economy, and restore hope for all Virginians.

On the other hand, what we are seeing tonight on the other side of the aisle is a continuation of the hateful rhetoric that we hear on a daily basis coming out of Washington: a focus on Confederate legacy rather than on the economy, on divisive social issues rather than on attracting good-paying jobs to the Commonwealth.

Senate Democrats stand united behind our ticket and we look forward to the substantive, policy-driven discussion that will see us through November.
