SENATE DEMOCRATS' STATEMENT ON VALIANT EFFORT IN THE 22ND DISTRICT

RICHMOND -- Today, voters in the 22nd State Senate District went to the polls to choose their next state senator. Republican Mark Peake was duly elected to replace former-Senator Tom Garrett, who was elected to Congress back in November.

Ryant Washington said, "I want to thank everyone who came out and supported my campaign today and in the weeks leading up to today. I am humbled at the outpouring of support, and have been from day one. Of course, this is not the result I had hoped for, but I do congratulate Mark Peake and Joe Hines for their hard fought campaigns and I wish Mark luck and success as he heads to Richmond to represent the 22nd District."

Democratic Leader Senator Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax) said, "The Caucus is immensely proud of the positive and issue-driven campaign Ryant Washington ran. The fact that he was able to drive such high voter turnout in a special election following a snow storm is a testament to the appetite for public servants focused on issues addressing their constituents. While the results are not what the Democratic Caucus were hoping for, we are proud of the effort Ryant Washington and his team put forward. Thank you to everyone who cast their ballots today."
