Senate Dems Condemn Ongoing Government Shutdown, Now Tied for Longest in History

Richmond—Senate Democratic Leader Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax) and Senate Caucus Chair Mamie Locke (D-Hampton) issued the following joint statement regarding the federal government shutdown which, as of today, is tied for the longest shutdown in history.

“As of today, the federal government shutdown is now tied for the longest in history. More than 800,000 workers and their families, including nearly 30,000 workers in Virginia, failed to receive a paycheck today due to a manufactured crisis of President Trump’s own making. Closed government agencies and lost wages are causing economic distress for thousands of families and businesses across the Commonwealth. Virginians deserve better. We call on the President and Senate Republicans to come together and work collaboratively with Leader Pelosi to work for the people they represent.”
