UPDATE REGARDING SJ 216 & THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT

Richmond, Va. -- SJ 216 -- a resolution to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment -- has been reconsidered and passed by for the day. Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Donald McEachin (D-Henrico) issued the following statement:

"This is nothing but partisan political shenanigans, a way for Senate Republicans to try to hold us hostage. The Equal Rights Amendment has passed through the Senate the last few times it was up. SJ 216 is due to be discussed, again, on the Senate floor in the coming days -- we fully expect that everyone who was in favor of equal rights today will still be in favor of equal rights when the resolution comes to a vote again. It's time for the games to end. Virginians deserve better."
