VA Senate Democrats Fundraising Edge Shows 2019 Enthusiasm

Richmond--First quarter finance reports, released on April 15, show the Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus outraising the Senate Republican Caucus with $297,042 and $286,843 being raised respectively. Additionally, the Senate Democratic Caucus is proud to have the support of grassroots donors who comprised more than 56% of their contributors as compared to the Republican Senate Caucus who had only one grassroots donor during the entire first quarter.

“Virginians are ready to flip the Senate blue,”said Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke. “The campaign finance reports show that grassroots enthusiasm and momentum continue to build toward November’s election and that Senate Democrats and our candidates are well positioned to run competitive campaigns and to win districts across the Commonwealth.”

Additionally, Democratic candidates for the Virginia Senate raised nearly $1,000,000 more than Republican candidates for the Virginia Senate during the first quarter of 2019 according to the numbers provided by VPAP:

  • Democratic candidates for Virginia Senate: $1,865,425
  • Republican candidates for Virginia Senate: $872,936
