Senate Democrats on Reconvened Session

RICHMOND, Va.: Yesterday, the Virginia General Assembly met for the reconvened session to consider Governor Ralph Northam’s amendments to legislation passed during the 2021 Session.

Majority Leader Dick Saslaw and Caucus Chair Mamie Locke said: “We are happy to have wrapped up the important work of the Commonwealth for the regular legislative session. Senate Democrats have led the way on significant progress for Virginians:

  • Ensuring all Virginians can get and stay healthy, through the pandemic and beyond

  • Providing pathways to good-paying jobs and creating Virginia’s workforce of the future

  • Reinforcing our commitment to the next generation by increasing education investments

  • Promoting equity and fairness, especially in our criminal justice system

“We know we will be back in Richmond soon to address new funds provided by President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and choosing judges for the newly expanded Court of Appeals. But we are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish so far in 2021, and we look forward to continuing our important work for every single Virginian.”
