Today, the Virginia Senate adjourned Sine Die, to return for a Special Session to consider the budget once negotiations are complete.
Majority Leader Dick Saslaw said: “For the past 60 days, Senate Democrats have doubled-down on safeguarding Virginia’s strong economy, ensuring every child receives a world-class public education, and providing more healthcare resources for Virginians. While our spending plan is not yet complete, we are standing firm on our values during budget negotiations making sure every Virginian can thrive and be successful. Our job is not yet finished–let’s get back to work and get the budget done.”
Caucus Chair Mamie Locke said: “Thanks to Senate Democrats, the progress made since 2020 has been protected. We stood together to protect our work for the environment, criminal justice reform, reproductive healthcare, workers’ rights, and so much more. I’m proud of what we have accomplished, standing together and remaining strong for every single Virginian–and we will continue to do so when making money decisions on behalf of Virginians.”
Finance and Appropriations Committee Chair, Senator Janet Howell said: “While budget negotiations remain ongoing, Senate conferees will work to maintain the original Senate budget funding to invest in the futures of Virginia’s students; provide health resources, particularly behavioral care, for everyone in the Commonwealth; and assure economic strength for every family. I look forward to continuing this important process to produce a healthy, responsible, and balanced budget.”
