RICHMOND -- Senate Democratic Leader Dick Saslaw (D- Fairfax) and Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke (D- Hampton) issued the following statement of support following Gov. Ralph Northam's speech this morning to the Joint Meeting of Senate Finance, House Appropriations, and House Finance Committees.

“Senate Democrats wholeheartedly support Governor Northam’s plan to use the anticipated $500 million in increased state revenues coming out from growth of our economy and from the structure of the federal tax cut in a way that gives tax relief to the working Virginians who are not currently feeling the benefits of the federal changes. Washington created the earned income tax credit with the top one percent of earners in mind. We believe that any additional revenue given to the Commonwealth should be used to help all Virginians. We support the plan to use these funds to invest in public education, workforce development, broadband access, and healthcare. Responsible use of this windfall will help us move Virginia forward.”
