STATEMENT: Nov. 2, 2021 Election Results

Virginia Senate Democrats issue the following statement regarding last night’s election results:

“Virginia Senate Democrats offer our congratulations to Mr. Glenn Youngkin on his victory in the race for Governor, and applaud Governor Terry McAuliffe on a well-fought campaign. We look forward to working with Mr. Youngkin and his future administration to continue to build a forward-thinking, fair, and strong Commonwealth for all.

“We would also like to congratulate Ms. Winsome Sears on her victory yesterday evening. The race for Lieutenant Governor was historic in many ways, and while we are disappointed we will not be working with Hala Ayala in the Senate we hope to work hand-in-hand with Ms. Sears to bring results for Virginia families.

“In addition, our best wishes to Mr. Jason Miyares as he undertakes the role of Attorney General. We will miss our former colleague Mark Herring, and thank him for his many years of unwavering service to the Commonwealth as Attorney General.
“While some of the results in the House of Delegates are not what we had hoped for, we look forward to working with our colleagues across the aisle and across the Capitol to provide the best leadership for Virginians we can.”
