Today, Majority Leader Dick Saslaw sent a letter to the Supreme Court of Virginia responding to Virginia Republicans’ request to disqualify the Democratic nominees for special master in the pending redistricting process. A copy of the letter can be found here.
Majority Leader Dick Saslaw said: “The behavior of Virginia Republicans in attempting to create a partisan divide in what is supposed to be a free and independent process is insulting to the institution of the Supreme Court of Virginia and the will of the Commonwealth’s voters. Senate Democrats have adhered to the principles of transparency and fairness and the intent of the Redistricting Amendment to provide Virginians with the input they deserve and the clarity they need. We hope our colleagues on the other side of the aisle can follow our example going forward, maintaining the end goal of impartial and data-driven legislative maps.”
