Virginia Senate Democrats Reflect on Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Inauguration

January 15, 2022

Upon the inauguration of Governor Glenn Youngkin today, the Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus releases the following statements:

Majority Leader Dick Saslaw said: ”I look forward to working with Governor Youngkin and his administration to keep Virginia number one for businesses and workers, continue investment a quality education for every child, and promote the health and welfare of everyone in the Commonwealth–both as we navigate the covid pandemic and beyond. The past eight years of Democratic successes has given us a platform to continue working together and making Virginia the best place it can be.”

Caucus Chair Mamie Locke said: “I hope to continue the great working relationship with the Governor’s administration as Gov. Youngkin and his administration take office. However, let me be clear: Senate Democrats have no intention rolling back two years of tremendous progress for all Virginians–not only a select few. We have made significant progress in getting Virginians insured through Medicaid expansion and other initiatives, and have strengthened our workforce through worker protections and education pipelines. We have worked hard toward a government in which every Virginian is treated with fairness and respect, and are not about to capitulate the hard-earned rights we have been able to afford so many across the Commonwealth.”
