Monty Mason is the Senator for Virginia’s 1st Senate District, representing Newport News, Williamsburg, York County, James City County, Hampton, and Suffolk. He served in the House of Delegates beginning in 2013 and was re-elected in 2015 before running for the Senate.  His previous legislative committee assignments include the House Counties, Cities and Towns Committee and House Courts of Justice Committee. He currently serves as a Senior Director at Visa, Inc., where he focuses on fraud prevention and helping reduce risk for banks and their consumers.

Prior to being elected in 2013, Monty served as Chairman of the Williamsburg Economic Development Authority. He currently serves on the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance Board and the Board of Directors of Smart Beginnings VA Peninsula, a nonprofit focused on early childhood education.

Monty was named a "Legislative Hero" for three straight years by the League of Conservation Voters for his votes to protect our environment and received the Virginia Education Association’s “Solid as a Rock” award for his votes supporting quality public education.

Monty received his bachelor's degree in government from the College of William and Mary and is an active alumnus. He served three years as Chairman of the Athletic Educational Foundation and in 2002 William and Mary awarded him the Young Alumni Service Award.

Monty lives in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Williamsburg with his wife, Pamela, who works at the College of William and Mary and serves as the President of the PTA at Mathew Whaley Elementary School.  They have two daughters, Taylor Anne (8) and Hawley (6).
